Who we are?
Tammy Farmer
Director and Specialised Support Coordinator
"Abilities outweigh disabilities.”
My life in the disability sector began when I was born. My older sister, Therese, was born with multiple disabilities. Therese was blind, developmentally delayed, has cerebral palsy, displays behavioural issues and has had to undergo a heart transplant, but as a child, to me, she was just Therese, my sister, I was oblivious to the fact that she may be “different”.
As I grew up, I became more aware of Therese’s challenges and those that my parents were facing, most of all, getting the right help which suits Therese’s needs.
Nikki La Faber
Director of Supports
“Differing Abilities” is a daily part of my life.
I have four children, two of whom have been diagnosed with different levels of autism, so believe me, I understand everything you are going through, from your daily life challenges, through to understanding the NDIS and how to make it best work for you.
I relocated my family to the Central Coast in 2014 in order to be closer to my parents. My mother had been in an accident 24 years ago which unfortunately left her in a wheelchair and my father had recently been diagnosed with cancer. We needed more support but navigating the system was beyond us at the time.
Tammy stepped in when we needed her the most and achieved what we thought was the impossible. Tammy enabled us to get the care, equipment and services that were necessary for my parents and family to live a happy, fulfilled and functional life.
Professionally, I come from a background within the Early Childhood sector. I hold a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood and a Diploma in Social Services. I worked in Childcare Centres for over 20 years, positions including Director and Education Leader. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with children with complex needs, both in childcare centres and in private homes, as well as working with young adults at a weekend respite program.
After working with Tammy on my families own NDIS needs, and personally seeing the difference a knowledgeable and passionate Support Coordination service could make in a person's life, I approached Tammy with a proposal and in 2019 we started Supporting Abilities together.
